Toledo Riverfront Project Update

When it opens next fall, Phase 1 of Glass City Metropark will have trails, a boardwalk extending over the water, a new rental facility with a green roof and observation area, and a large event lawn. A bike/pedestrian bridge over Main Street will connect the new Metropark with International Park. Still more amenities are envisioned for future phases.

Swan Creek Trail Extension

Metroparks Toledo is proposing to construct a 10-foot-wide, shared-use path beginning at the existing Swan Creek Preserve parking lot off Airport Highway to Byrne Road. This is part of a larger plan to connect Maumee, Ohio with Swan Creek and the UT Medical Center. Check out the map and submit comments or questions at the Swan Creek Trail Extension blog page.

How Other Cities Deal With Riding in the Winter

Have you ever though of riding to work in the winter? Nearly half of all journeys to school and work in Copenhagen take place on bicycles, even in the winter. The citizens of Copenhagen have adapted bicycles to carry groceries, children, and other essentials. Natalie Gulsrud, a resident of Copenhagen, said “People here say there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.”  Read more about this in the New York Times article.

10/19 - Tombstone Tour

The Tombstone Bicycle Tour is a winding ride through historic Providence Metropark, allowing riders to visit the working lock on the Miami and Erie Canal. You can choose from the 15 mile loop, a 25 mile loop, or combine both for more than 40 miles! There is also a Family Haunted Ride, with a family-friendly 5-mile route on the Oak Openings bike trail, entirely inside the park. Join a Metroparks Ranger at one of two guided rides starting at 11 a.m. or 1 p.m.

  • Date: Sunday, October 19th, 2019
  • Location: Tour begins and ends Buehner Center at the Mallard Lake area
  • Requirements:  Wear a helmet, costume optional!

10/4 - GlowRoll419: Take a night time glow bike tour through downtown Toledo to celebrate fall bike riding and literacy! Registration starts at 6:30 at The United Way of Greater Toledo. More info: Wersell's event page.

10/5 - Wersell's Trail to Coffee MTB Ride: A community mountain bike ride through Old Orchard neighborhood to Ottawa park and hop on the Jermain/Ottawa MTB trails. After the MTB trails, riders will stop at SIP coffee for coffee and a snack. More info: Wersell's event page.

10/5 - Cyclocross Extravaganza Race #1: Cyclocross race format is for informal but spirited action. The race is split into an A and B race, the A race is 45 minutes, the B Race is 35 minutes, and a one lap KIDS race. More info: Facebook event posted by Cyclewerks and The Maumee Valley Wheelmen.
